CALL TO ACTION / Call Your US Reps! PDF E-mail

The Obama Administration is putting intense political pressure on the US House of Representatives to pass socialized healthcare THIS COMING SUNDAY, March 20!  The President has cancelled his trip to Indonesia (that he had already postponed) so that he can continue to strong arm the US House and Senate to vote for the bill.

Make no mistake about it, if Obamacare passes everyone loses including millions of unborn babies who will die in their mother's wombs at taxpayer expense. That is in addition to the overall loss of liberty, a dramatic plunge in the quality and availability of healthcare, huge tax increases, and the further bankrupting of future generations that will take place if Obamacare becomes the law of the land.

As of this moment Iowa Democrat representatives: Loebsack, Braley, and Boswell are all listed as sure votes FOR Obamacare.  Republican representatives King and Latham are listed as sure votes AGAINST Obamacare.

Call your US Representative today and tell him to VOTE NO to Obamacare!

You can determine your district by using the map below.  Here is a list of the five Iowa congressmen and their contact info:

District 1 / Bruce Braley (D) 202-225-2911

District 2 / David Loebsack (D) 202-225-6576

District 3 / Leonard Boswell (D) 515-282-1909

District 4 / Tom Latham (R) 515-232-2885

District 5 / Steve King (R) 202-225-4426

Iowa House Votes to Block the Marriage Amendment PDF E-mail
As he had pledged he would do, House Republican Leader Kraig Paulsen attempted to move the Marriage Amendment to the House floor for debate this morning using House Rule 60. Unfortunately the effort failed 45 to 54 with one Democrat, Delores Mertz, joining all 44 Republicans.

Although they will claim otherwise, this does place the House Democrats on record as blocking the Marriage Amendment for the second time.

While it would be a blessing to have succeeded in this early effort, we have known from the start that this is going to be a long battle.  The good news is that there is a growing grassroots effort across the state focused on making sure that Iowans have the opportunity to vote on a Marriage Amendment.

At this point, we need to keep up the pressure as we begin to focus our attention on the 2010 November election when every House member, as well as many of the Senators will be up for reelection.

I encourage you to call your Iowa Representative today.  If he/she is a Republican, thank them for their vote this morning.  If he/she is a Democrat let them know of your displeasure with their vote. (With the exception of Rep. Mertz.)

An effort to bring the Marriage Amendment to the floor was also made in the Senate this morning with much the same result. All 18 Senate Republicans signed a petition, joined by 1 Democrat Senator, Tom Hancock, asking for the Marriage Amendment to move forward.  They needed 26 signatures.

Call to Action / Call Your State Legislators PDF E-mail

Our voice is making a difference! Please read the following article from Iowa Family Policy Center:

On Monday, the state's leading promoter of state sanctioned sodomy, One Iowa, sent a plea to their e-mail list asking for help in pushing back against your efforts to bring the Iowa Marriage Amendment to a vote.  The call for help came from Speaker of the House, Pat Murphy.

In his message, Speaker Murphy said that his colleagues are being "bombarded with venomous messages." That's right: the Speaker of the Iowa House thinks that your calls, visits, and e-mails asking for a vote on the Iowa Marriage Amendment are "venomous."  He goes on to say "Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal and I have pledged to oppose a constitutional amendment to define marriage between a man and a woman, and we will employ any means at our disposal" to keep the amendment from coming to the people of Iowa for a vote.

Speaker Murphy would not be making this plea for help if he was not hearing from his Democrat House members.  They know that their political futures are being sacrificed on the One Iowa altar of homosexual activism to keep Iowans from exercising their constitutional rights. Your voice is being heard, and your efforts are making a difference.  Continue to call, e-mail, and visit your Representative and Senator.

Also, be on the lookout for town hall meetings and legislative coffees where you can visit with lawmakers when they are home from Des Moines.

Now is the time to once again call your state legislators (representative and senator) and let them know that you want the opportunity to vote on a Marriage Amendment.  Encourage the Republicans to continue pressing for the vote, ask the Democrats why they continue to allow their leadership to block the Marriage Amendment from even coming to the floor for debate. You can get your particular legislator's contact information by clicking the link below and typing in your address.

News Alert / Senate votes to begin debating the Healthcare Bill. PDF E-mail
The US Senate voted tonight 60 - 39 to begin floor debate on the Healthcare Bill following the Thanksgiving recess.

By way of correction, our recent "Call to Action" email said that tonight's vote would end debate.  That was incorrect.  Tonight's vote allows the 2074 page bill to go to the Senate floor for debate.

The bill itself remains the same with all of the unacceptable issues including federally funded abortion and a public option that would further bankrupt the nation and destroy our current healthcare system.

The fact that the bill passed this procedural vote tonight with only the exact number of "yeas" necessary (60) to move forward reveals the challenges it faces in the future.  No Republicans voted in favor of allowing the bill to move forward.

It is important to understand that this is the first step in a long battle with the final outcome far from certain.  We must maintain our vigilance and continue to pray that the God would intervene on our behalf and allow this bill to be defeated.
